    <title>Basement Flooded?</title>
    <link>http://www.washwestcivic.org/news.html</link>
<description>The Philadelphia Water Department has asked the Civic Association to reach out to Wash West residents who have expererienced basement flooding. They are seeking five or six "volunteer" properties that will allow PWD staff along with a contracted plumber to inspect their basements (looking at their current plumbing configuration, number of basement fixtures and where their rain leaders are connected) so that they can develop an average cost for retrofitting properties with backwater protection. From this information, they are hoping to develop a customer assistance program by January.

They would like to schedule these inspections during the weeks of Nov. 13 and Nov. 20. Each inspection should take between 30 - 60 minutes, depending on the basement set up.

If you are interested or have any questions, please a call 215-685-4944. </description>

<title>6th District Police Making Inroads in Drug Sales</title>
    <link>http://www.washwestcivic.org/news.html</link>
<description>On January 28 and February 1st at least four men were arrested and found to be carrying large amounts of illegal drugs, clearly with intent to distribute. Let's hope this makes a dent in the dramatically increased drug sales that are occuring in our neighborhood. Our thanks and appreciation go out to the officers of the Sixth District, and to our neighbors who made call after call about the apparent drug trafficking in the 12th and Pine area.

    <title>Help Plan Wash West</title>
    <link>http://www.washwestcivic.org/news.html</link>
<description>Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has hired U3 Ventures to help them revamp their retail presence in our community. This company has had success with Upenn over the last several years, and they are now looking for input from Wash West residents. They have already held a very productive meeting with land and business owners in the community, and would now like to know residents' general perceptions of what exists and what they think is needed in the future. They are planning an informal discussion group, to be held at Joe Coffee Bar, 1100 Walnut Street, on either the 6th or 7th of March at 7:00 pm. They would like to focus on residents living within the area bound by: Market to Spruce St. and 8th to 13th St. If you are a resident of this area and you would like to participate in the discussion, please RSVP to Ali Fazio at afazio@cbaarch.com, or 215-928-0202 (x101). Please specify which date is preferable.
